New Stone Temple Pilots album in the works

A new Stone Temple Pilots album could come out next year.

That's according to a recent interview with STP drummer Eric Kretz in the Ventura County Star. Regarding a new Stone Temple Pilots album, Kretz said, "We’re maybe looking at putting out another record next year or touring some more and trying new ideas of how to present music, especially for downloading."

The new Stone Temple Pilots album would come only a year after the last STP album, a self-titled album that came out earlier this year. The last STP album before that was 2001's Shangri-La Dee Da.

The Stone Temple Pilots tour was postponed in September after Scott Weiland acted erratically on stage in Houston, but it resumed earlier this month. A new Stone Temple Pilots "Rock Band" song pack also came out last week.

Stone Temple Pilots tour postponed

The Stone Temple Pilots tour has been postponed until mid-October.

Stone Temple Pilots announced the tour postponement after Sunday night's concert in Houston, which started an hour late and featured erratic behavior from Scott Weiland. The band did not give a reason, but the El Paso Times said low ticket sales may have been behind Stone Temple Pilots postponing their tour. Others have speculated it's because of another Scott Weiland relapse, which bassist Robert DeLeo discussed in May.

The Stone Temple Pilots tour postponement will end with a show in Florida, but the band has not yet said which one: Oct. 9 in Orlando, Oct.12 in Hollywood, Oct. 13 in Estero or Oct. 16 in Pensacola.

Watch this video of Scott Weiland's admittedly drunken rant during Sunday's concert in Houston -- the last show before the Stone Temple Pilots tour was postponed:

New Rage Against the Machine album a "genuine possibility"

A new Rage Against the Machine album could come as early as the end of this year.

Singer Zach de la Rocha told NME a new Rage Against the Machine album is a "genuine possibility." Rage played a handful of concerts in Europe this month, and de la Rocha said the band members would have to "finish up on some other projects" before recording could begin.

There hasn't been a new Rage Against the Machine album since 2000, when the band released Renegades, a collection of cover songs.

Santana-Chris Cornell "Whole Lotta Love" duet in the works

A Santana and Chris Cornell duet, a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love," will appear on the next Santana album, according to Contactmusic.com.

The Santana album will include nothing but covers of classic rock songs. In addition to the "Whole Lotta Love" Chris Cornell duet, the album will also feature AC/DC's "Back in Black" with Nas, Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" with Joe Cocker and The Doors' "Riders on the Storm" with Ray Manzarek.

The new Santana album does not yet have a release date. Here's a video of Chris Cornell singing "Whole Lotta Love" as part of a medley:

Scott Weiland relapse? Robert DeLeo says yes

A Scott Weiland relapse is causing problems on the Stone Temple Pilots tour, STP bassist Robert DeLeo told Spin magazine.

The cause of this latest Scott Weiland relapse isn't heroin or cocaine, which the singer has battled before, but prescription pills, DeLeo said.

"He can't go on tour," DeLeo said. "He needs help. He thinks he's clean just because he's not shooting heroin. But he's popping pills."

The author of Spin's STP cover article, Stephen Elliot, also wrote that Weiland showed up late for a photo shoot and drank a "Scotch and Coke, heavy on the Scotch" during an interview at the singer's house. (The quotes from DeLeo about the Scott Weiland relapse are not in the online version of the article, but they are in the magazine.)

DeLeo's comments about the Scott Weiland relapse come as STP released its self-titled album today -- the band's first since 2001's Shangri La Dee Da -- featuring the hit single "Between the Lines." STP also has U.S. and European tour dates booked through the fall (including the KROQ Weenie Roast 2010), several TV appearances scheduled (including "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Thursday night) and an unreleased song, "You Can't Drive Me Away," on the latest "True Blood" soundtrack.

Chris Cornell breaks hand

Chris Cornell broke his hand May 11, but the injury will not affect the planned Soundgarden reunion, according to Contactmusic.com.

The website reports on Twitter postings from Vicky Cornell, the singer's wife, that said Chris Cornell broke his hand when he dropped something very heavy.

"Broken hand has not stopped Chris Cornell from playing guitar - no worries!!!" she wrote.

Even though Chris Cornell broke his hand, he will still be able to prepare for Soundgarden's headlining performance at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival in August. Soundgarden played its first concert in 13 years April 16 at the Showbox in Seattle.

This Pearl Jam "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love" video is from the May 15 Pearl Jam concert at the XL Arena in Hatford, Connecticut.

Billy Corgan: Courtney Love and I are done

The on-again, off-again feud between Billy Corgan and Courtney Love is back on again, in a big way.

Corgan went off on Love on Twitter yesterday, the day before her band Hole released its new album, Nobody's Daughter. He had previously told her that she couldn't use any songs they had co-written on the album, but she didn't listen. (Corgan has writing credits on four Nobody's Daughter tracks.)

So the feud between Billy Corgan and Courtney Love escalated, with Corgan writing, "if you can't write your own songs maybe you should just be happy that you fooled someone into doing your work for you... maybe you should go someone nice+live off your husband's money, u know the money he made for writing all those great songs."

Corgan also criticized Love for having her daughter taken away by the government. Meanwhile, Love went on a rant against Corgan on the Howard Stern Show, according to Antiquiet.

Billy Corgan and Courtney Love have known each other for 20 years. They once dated, and Corgan wrote several songs on Hole's album Celebrity Skin. Nobody's Daughter, which also features songwriting contributions from Pete Thorn and Linda Perry, is getting decent reviews so far.

Watch the video for "Celebrity Skin" by Hole, which Billy Corgan and Courtney Love co-wrote:

Stone Temple Pilots' "Between the Lines" tops Billboard charts

Stone Temple Pilots' "Between the Lines," the first single from the band's upcoming album, is the No. 1 song on Billboard's Rock Songs and Alternative Songs charts this week.

For Stone Temple Pilots, "Between the Lines" marks a successful start to their comeback. Although STP has toured for the past few years, the band had not released any new music since "All in the Suit That You Wear," the single from 2003's greatest hits album Thank You. STP's self-titled album will be its first since Shangri-La-Dee-Da, which came out in 2001.

Stone Temple Pilots' "Between the Lines" and "Hickory Dichotomy" are now streaming on Amazon.com, which will make a new song available weekly leading up to the May 25 album release date. STP has also announced that FYE will make the album available for pre-order May 4, and all pre-order customers will receive a free two-song sampler.

Watch this Stone Temple Pilots "Between the Lines" video from the band's March 19 concert in Bossier City, Louisiana:
